Empowered Birth Preparation

Birth preparation is a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and expansion. I would be honoured to guide you through this as a witness and sister.

Preparing for birth can be overwhelming, there is so much information, opinions and conflicting advice in the modern world. The benefit of birth mentoring is that it can be simplified through guidance. Mentoring isn’t so much about teaching, it’s about guiding you to find your own birthing wisdom, strength, power and vision for a birth that aligns with your true desires.

Six 1:1 sessions of mentoring, using the Birthing from Within framework. This is a unique approach that focuses on inner work and healing. I will guide you to holistically explore your fears, and look into any underlying issues that may impact your birth choices or flow in labou

Birth Doula:

As your doula, it is my role to provide unconditional emotional support, physical presence, guidance and comfort during your birth.

Through our birth preparation sessions, I have come to know your preferences and needs but also your deepest desires for how you want to bring your baby into the world.

Continuity of care and relationship we develop across the journey is not only beautiful but so important if I’m to be in your intimate space for birthand post-part. Developing relationship, trust, connection and comfortability is a big focus of mine.

Not only do I support you, but I support your primary birth partner. It is hard to predict exactly what you’ll need in the depths of labour. I am prepared to be there physically holding both of you with loving touch and encouraging words, or staying in the background making sure drinks and snacks are replenished.

I will breathe with you, sound with you (if that’s what helps) and remind you to listen to your body and baby’s wisdom. If necessary I can also offer techniques that support a labouring body to open or relax such as therapeutic touch and acupressure points.

The greatest gift I bring to the birthspace is my deep trust in the birth process and your body. This hasn’t been learned in a book, this trust was embedded in my cells through the births of my children and years of unlearning the negative, fearful birth culture I grew up in.

In acknowledging the sacred, spiritual dimension of the birthing journey, I will help to set the space to remind you of this. Candles, affirmations and sacred objects can really make a difference.

Logistics wise, when birthing at home, I will come to you when requested and stay until you have your baby, tidy and make sure you are fed and rehydrated.

I will be your side before, during and after the birth.

I look forward to taking this journey together and making sure you have everything you need to have an empowered birth experience.

Postpartum Doula. Tailored care; it’s time to receive and be nurtured

As your postpartum doula, I will be showing up for you in this tender, precious and unique time of your life. I will be nurturing you so that you can heal from birth, bond with your baby and smoothly transition into a new family dynamic.

Postnatal depletion and depression is at an all time high, and it’s the current social environment and lack of awareness around postpartum to blame. Thankfully, postpartum care in the West is making a resurgence. We’re finally starting to see the consequences of ‘bouncing back quickly’ and mothers typically being left alone, without the support they truly need.

By nurturing the mother, we nurture the baby. When a mother is properly cared for in postpartum, she is able to move into the next chapter of her life feeling capable, integrated and trusting in her intuition.

We can look to the traditional cultures around the world for guidance on how to care for a mother. Universally, they practiced an extended rest period after Birth, warming nutrient dense foods, massage, company from other women, sacred rituals to honour the transition from maiden to mother.

The preparation and planning for postpartum is an important part of this care, where essentially we create the nest. I help to design your postpartum, gather your support team, meal train. Ultimately, the framework we create for postpartum sets you up with a village and network that you can remain connected to for the longer term of your motherhood journey.

We will also look into your relationship to rest, recieving and boundary setting for relatives and friends that may not be appropriate in your most raw and vulnerable time after birth

Once your baby is born, I will nurture you with therapies such as bodywork, sitz baths and yoni steams. These therapies are not luxuries, they are imperative for proper pelvic health recovery. I will cook you special meals that promote healing and breast milk production.

I can offer gentle guidance based on my own experience for pelvic floor healing, breastfeeding, babycare, co-sleeping and elimination communication.

I will help you to unravel your birth experience using a birth story listening process. I also hold safe space for you to express any of the varied emotions that arise in postpartum. They are valid.

When this chapter of care comes to an end, I will hold a final ritual to assist with closing the birth energy in a mind /body meditation of wrapping you in rebozos.
As well as tending to your preferences for placenta options, preparation and/or planting ritual.

“The most difficult part of birth is the first year afterwards. It is the year of travail – when the soul of a woman must birth the mother inside her. The emotional labour pains of becoming a mother are far greater than the physical pangs of birth; these are the growing surges of your heart as it pushes out selfishness and fear and makes room for sacrifice and love. It is a private and silent birth of the soul, but it is no less holy than the event of childbirth, perhaps it is even more sacred.” -Joy Kusek

Mother Blessing

This is a special gathering that is a different spin on a baby shower. Rather than a focus on the collection of things, this is an opportunity to gather invaluable support, wisdom, guidance and blessings from your friendship circle and family as you transition into motherhood and prepare for birth. Most often a gathering of women, a mother blessing will shine love, nurturing, delicious food and sacred ritual on the mother to be.

In my experience, the mother blessing has increased my confidence for birth and revealed to me my true power, reflected by the circle of wise women that gathered around me. The processes I was going through in pregnancy were finally solidified and blessed on that day.

There are many different ways to hold a mother blessing. During a consultation we will design your ceremony based on your needs and wishes. I will offer a variety of rituals and formats for you to choose from but some include singing of sacred songs, belly painting, foot bath, massage, the creation of a birth necklace.

I will facilitate and organise the Mother Blessing for you

Price will vary according to venue, date and location
